Company Chordelia is an innovative and exciting company based in Scotland. Funded by Creative Scotland, the company defies traditional dance boundaries, working creatively by bringing music, opera, theatricality, story-telling, design and imagination to all its productions. Company Chordelia has a unique voice and aesthetic which owes much to tradition and classical forms while at the same time being innovative, atmospheric, idiosyncratic, risk-taking and aspirational.
Formed in 2002 by acclaimed choreographer and artistic director Kally Lloyd-Jones, the company engages exciting new Scottish talent, offering the highest quality productions to theatres and venues across Scotland and the UK. From small scale rural touring to collaborations with Scottish Opera with a full scale orchestra, the company reaches out to new audiences. Company Chordelia has the desire to communicate with audiences at the forefront of its thinking, which is borne out by its ongoing popularity and audience feedback.
Actively working with new partnerships and co-productions, the company seeks out unique opportunities for visionary ideas and collaborations.
Company Chordelia’s Creativity and Wellbeing strand of work is committed to introducing people to a holistic way of engaging with the arts. Creativity offers opportunities to excite our imaginations and re-ignite our spontaneity, bringing playfulness and colour to our lives and our world. Through individual and group workshops, we are positively promoting participation in our own emotional, mental and physical health and wellbeing by developing expression, creativity and connectedness.
Productions include Blood, Sweat & Shopping (2002), Saturday Night Divas (2003 & 2004), Play On! (2004), Cinderella Pilot Error! (2005), Red Shoes (2006/7) (d. M. Popper), 73 1/2 Minutes To Make A Good Impression (2008) (d.M Popper), Les Amoureux (2009), Cabaret Chordelia (2009), Miranda (2011). Company Chordelia has appeared at Defining Moments (2003), performed twice as part of the Critic Awards for Theatre in Scotland, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2007 and 2010 and has been regularly supported on a project basis by Creative Scotland and Glasgow City Council. Company Chordelia is a Scottish Charity and the recent recipient of Scottish Arts Council/Creative Scotland Flexible Funding 2009-11 and 2011-13.
